Socialism concentrates power in the state. No checks, no balances. Raw power is centralized in one place, where the most ruthless can grab it to dominate other human beings. For most of the eight billion people on Earth, this is their way of life. Why would we want to join them?

Gouvernuer Morris has some advice for us

Leftists like to disparage the Founders as ol' fogies who had no conception of the modern world. Not true. Tempest at Dawn shows that they grappled with the same kind of issues that we do today. Gouverneur Morris wrote the final version of the Constitution and is regarded as the stylist of this great document. He said he did not trust "Citizens of the World" because they readily abandoned their loyalty to their mother country and could not be relied upon to honor other social pacts.

The Constitution is not obsolete. Our Constitution defines a system of government that protects us from the worst impulses of mankind. Human nature does not change, so these protective measures remain valid. The Constitution dictates how laws are made. It is the laws, not the Constitution, that accommodate technological change. The Founders could not envision mass air transport, but the government enacted laws to regulate the technology, and the Executive branch established agencies to make it commonplace to get from New York to Los Angeles in six hours. No constitutional amendments were necessary.
